HERE IS THE NOTIFICATION FROM GLORIA CHARLAND (SIERRA CLUB TOXIC TEAM):

While I have not covered the entire lake, there are toxic algal blooms near the shore on the east side of the lake and the north shore.

We have at least 6 different species of cyanobacteria in the sample from the east shore. It tested positive for microcystin, a liver toxin. They are capable of also producing neurotoxins, but I do not have a field kit for that. I'm driving the sample to the health dept. to get an accurate quantification of the toxins. 

Remember the water in front of your house could be more or less toxic.  As always, when in doubt, stay out (and keep dogs and children away from the scum on beaches). And, boating activities that produce a spray can result in toxins going directly into lung tissue.

​Happy Summer/Fall Pleasant Hill Residents!

     Hopefully you are enjoying your summer, especially now that the sun is setting earlier, indicating Fall is fast approaching.  The PHIA board has been meeting regularly and busy with projects.  However, very few of those projects could be accomplished without the support and generosity of a small percentage of all the people living in Pleasant Hill Subdivision.  It is the contributions, pier fees, voluntary donations of funds, equipment, physical effort, and time that result in the work being completed this summer.   

Our posted signs to honor Earth Day and clean up the Beach Day, drew a good group of neighborhood volunteers, and many kids in Pleasant Hill participated in our annual Easter Egg Hunt.  As always, the Park was mowed regularly.  Additionally, to replace the dead trees we cut down last year, we were able to purchase and plant two Maple trees in the Park this Spring.

     This year drew more neighborhood volunteers and along with some Board members, everyone cleaned the beach.  Two residents generously volunteered hauling equipment; a Bobcat and a Tracker with a cart.  So, as some volunteers raked and piled up debris, the Bobcat lifted and hauled piles, while still other folks shoveled and pitchforked some of the piled debris into the wagon.  It was an amazing feat and was almost completed until disaster struck, when a hose on the Bobcat sprung a leak and work came to a stop.  Fortunately, the PHIA had sufficient funds to rent a smaller Bobcat and a few days later, a much smaller group of individuals were able to gather to remove the remaining debris.  The PHIA was also able to help fund the purchase of sand to fill the holes caused by erosion along the canoe launch and on the beach. We are also very grateful and offer special thanks to Bob Kula and his crew from Avon Township for their help with the removal of the beach and earth day debris, the hauling of sand, the clean up after this year’s awful rainstorms, and all their other yearlong effort support and work in our subdivision. 

 

     We hope by providing this information you will see without volunteers, little would be accomplished.  Please consider volunteering and offering whatever you can.  You are invited to attend regular board meetings especially, the annual meeting, to be held in the park, on September 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.  

Information for new residents and reminder for all: 

In the month of October, we will deliver the Halloween flyer.  This year’s date and times for Halloween trick or treating are Saturday October 31 from 1:00-5:00p.m.  

    Cars are not allowed to be parked on any of the streets in the subdivision.  This is a safety issue, especially if there's a house fire and fire trucks can't get through our very narrow streets.   

    It is not allowed to have roosters in the subdivision.  Check the Lake County website

     Kindly Dispose of your garbage appropriately.  This is especially true in the park. Please be respectful of your neighbors, your neighborhood, and yourself and place your trash in waste bins.   

    Per County regulations keep grass or weeds less than 10 inches to prevent mice, raccoons, possums, and other vermin from moving into your yard.  if you notice a public nuisance, you can call the Lake County Nuisance Hotline at 847-377-4444.
